The following notes have been compiled to ensure a safe and happy experience for our riders, volunteers and horses. Please read carefully.

Riders, Parents, Guardians Please Take Note

Rules:

  • As you arrive at the farm, please drive very slowly (under 15km/hr.) out of respect for lessons that may be in progress and the safety of children and animals nearby.
  • No dogs please.
  • All children must be kept under close supervision at all times.
  • There is an assigned safe area for families to play and watch the riding lessons; perhaps bring an activity for a child who is waiting. Please, keep off the mounting ramp.
  • Do not enter any barn or indoor arena unless directed to do so. At Willaway Farm, we are requested to use the entrance to the indoor arena that is accessed at the paddock end, and not through the barn.
  • Lessons will go ahead if it is raining. We have use of an indoor arena. If, in the event of severe weather we do cancel lessons, we will contact you.
  • Instructors will mount and dismount riders.

What to Wear:

  • Helmets are mandatory and it is recommended that the riders provide their own if possible.  We do, however, have some helmets on site if needed.
  • No Crocs, sandals, or open toed shoes allowed for any rider, under any circumstances.
  • If your rider uses a saddle with stirrups, they MUST wear a boot with a heel.
  • If not using a saddle with stirrups, running shoes are appropriate.
  • Long comfortable pants like jeans or leggings.
  • No shorts, skirts or dresses (bare skin rubs on saddle leather and rough saddle pads).
  • Weather appropriate attire please.
  • Please do not wear perfume or scented products due to sensitivity of riders and volunteers.

Reminders and Notes:

  • Payment is due prior to the first riding lesson of each session to ensure placement of the rider. Cheques are payable to LCTRP.
  • Riding is a high risk activity. There are Inherent DANGERS, HAZARDS and RISKS, associated with Equine Activities and   injuries resulting from these “RISKS” are a common occurrence.
  • We encourage you to bring a carrot or apple as a treat for your horse. Treats are fed from a bowl only (no hands) following each lesson.
  • You may provide a snack or drink for your rider if they need it.
  • Don’t forget sunscreen!

In the Case of Inclement Weather:

Unfortunately we are not able to predict the weather, and at times we experience severe conditions that are not safe for our participants, instructors, volunteers and horses. Both riding locations have indoor arenas available for our use; if it is raining, we will continue with our lessons indoors.

If there is a Humidex warning in excess of 38oC, we will NOT proceed with lessons.

Also, please note: If there is thunder/ lightening, we may cancel lessons.

If we need to cancel lessons, we will make every attempt to give everyone ample notice (i.e. by 7:30am for morning lessons and by 2pm for afternoon lessons).
